Mogadishu (RBC) At least four people were killed in a heavy gun battle between Somali government forces backed by the Ethiopian army and Al Shabab insurgents in Ufurow town of southern Somalia region, RBC Radio reports on Saturday.
According to locals in Ufurow town, the militants took over the town as the government forces and the Ethiopians vacated from the town after the battle.
Fighters of Al Shabab poured into the town at midday of Saturday soon after the Ethiopians and Somali government forces withdrew from Ufurow, unnamed residents confirmed.
The regional administration and security officials could not be reached for comment.
Meanwhile pro-Al Shabab radio claimed that the fighters imposed curfew into the town and will begin to implement Sharia to the people.
On mid March, Al Shabab fighters have taken full control of the southern town of Xudur at southern Somalia’s Bakool region after Ethiopian troops vacated the town.
