Garbaharey (RBC) Before concluding his tour to Gedo region, the prime minister of Somalia Abdi Farah Shirdon “Saacid” has appointed Mohamed Abdi Kalil as the new interim governor of Gedo region.
Mr. Kalil is also the current administrator of Gedo region and his new nomination has to end within six months, a decree from the prime minister’s office said on Monday.
“The nominations of the other regional officials will be soon completed.” The prime minister’s decree added.
Gedo region was somehow part of the three regions’ initiative to form Jubbaland state under the Somali federal government in a meeting in Kismayo in February; however the federal government officials described as unconstitutional scheme.
On other side, in an agreement signed in Garbaharey town the moderate Sufi group of Ahlusuna in Gedo region agreed to merge their militias into the Somali National Army.
Somalia minister of defense Abdihakim Mohamud Fiqi and Ahlusuna commander Sheikh Mohamed Hussein Al Qaadi both signed the agreement during Sunday meeting in Garbaharey town.
