SOMALIA: Elders in Jowhar town request Intersos to take up the gap left by MSF

Mogadishu (RBC) The cultural elders of the region of middle Shabelle requested from intersos to fill the gap (services provided by MSF) left by MSF which recently announced the pullout from the humanitarian activities it carried out in Somalia.

In a meeting held at Intersos compound in Jowhar, the cultural elders asked Intersos to provide the humanitarian services that were previously carried out by MSF especially the hospital that MSF used to run.

The cultural elders of middle Shabelle region have emphasized the need for filling the services that were previously provided by MSF. MSF used to provide many health services that benefited many residents of the middle Shabelle region.

Some very popular peace makers and elders of middle Shabelle have requested from intersos humanitarian organisation to double its efforts in health services as there is currently a great need for maternity services in the region.

The Jowhar regional field co-ordinator mentioned that they encountered a great workload after the closer of MSF Spain as this closer was quick and unexpected even though the Intersos team have carried out 80 deliveries and two of these were caesarian.

More so, the cultural elders who come from different clans of the middle Shabelle region have thanked the hospital management team and the efforts and hard work they are doing for the people of middle Shabelle.

The Intersos regional field co-ordinator Hassan Mahad Abdi, has promised that Intersos will continue providing health services for the people of middle Shabelle and will put a lot of effort in providing maternity services for the region.

Hassan Mahad Abdi has also praised the great work currently carried out by the three senior nurses and the midwives who are currently delivering pregnant mother in labor.

The Intersos Jowhar hospital has recently introduced an ambulance that was meant to transport patients in and around Jowhar to the hospital for treatment.

The Jowhar hospital has been existing for a long time and has been working in the region for twenty years. The hospital has been through different circumstances during this time in that there were occasions when the hospital staff used to work without a contact.
