MOGADISHU (RBC) Despite most of Somalia government workers in Mogadishu are taking their holiday to mark the International Workers’ Day there are no meetings to celebrate the day in the capital today, RBC Radio reports.
Heavy security operations which started on Tuesday continued until Wednesday as hundreds of Somalia government security forces were deployed into the city’s main roads blocking the movement of the vehicles including the public buses which led thousands on people to use their feet to reach universities or business places in the capital.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud used the media to extend his congratulations to the Somali workers during a press conference in the Villa Somalia palace.
“I want to congratulate Somali workers as general for their commitment to earn fir themselves and abstaining to flee to foreign countries or stand streets for looting or stealing.” President Mohamud said.
He called for the employers of the big companies in the country to abide the laws if the labor and to give full priority to the employees.
Also the country’s Prime Minister Abdi Farah Shirdon using a press statement praised the workers of the country for being patience in the hardships they face in a country that lacked rule of law for many years.
“The work is the life of any person and protects his reputation. The development of any society depends on how its members work hard.” Prime Minister Shirdon said in his statement.
According to government sources the security agents canceled celebrations of the Workers’ Day because of growing fears of possible attacks from Al Shabab group. The security forces instead continued their operation until today.
