Mogadishu (RBC News) Somaliland president’s speech at the Atlantic Council drew anger from Somaliland supporters in Washington DC yesterday . President Ahmed Mohamed Silaanyo said the decision to secede was irreversible. “Today, only the people of Somaliland can and will decide their future – not the government in Mogadishu, not the international community. ”
Among achievements president Silaanyo showcased in his Atlantic Council speech is Somaliland policy to invest ” in food security… while others in our region have struggled with famine and relied on external food aid”. Some analysts are of the opinion that Somaliland president has made “an unsympathetic reference to famine victims.” A Washington-based pro-Somaliland activist said: “The speech will be remembered as president Silaanyo’s let-them-eat-cake moment”.
