Mogadishu: the condolence of Monti for the victims of the attacks
15th April 2013 – The Prime Minister and acting Foreign Minister, Mario Monti, has condemned the serious terrorist attacks that took place yesterday in Mogadishu and expressed condolences for the many victims of the attacks. President Monti, in showing the strong closeness of Italy to the Somali Authorities, reiterated the commitment of the Italian Government in the fight against terrorism and in strengthening security in Somalia.
“Despite the brutality of these attacks, I am convinced that the Somali Authorities will be able to continue with greater commitment on their way to strengthening the security, by implementing the national governance and institution reforms.” With these words, Monti has sought to emphasize the scale of the challenges that the Executive Somalia is facing, despite the threats of piracy and terrorism.
The negotiations for the definition of relations between the central and peripheral authorities, as well as the reform efforts of the security forces and the police of the public finance system and the justice sector, are important changes within the Somali society. “These terrorist attacks coincide with a crucial stage in the stabilization of Somalia, and strengthen Italy’s determination to continue to provide its support to the Somali Authorities,” said Monti.
