Nairobi (RBC) Somalia president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has on Tuesday attended the inauguration ceremony of the fourth president-elect of Kenya, Uhuru Kenyatta who was sworn in Nairobi today on April 9, 2013.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud was among regional leaders and foreign diplomats who watched the celebrations and the swearing of the 51-years old president of the neighboring Kenya.
In his welcoming address Somalia president called for the new president of Kenya to maintain Kenya’s support to the people of Somalia and the bilateral collaborations between the two states.
The president also noted that Somalia would thank Kenya for hosting Somali refugees in Kenya in the past two decades.
The new Somali government has been looking on close eyes to the Kenyan elections where the biggest refugee camp in the world is located and home to more than 650,000 Somali refugees. Kenya is also taking part the African Union Mission in Somalia [AMISOM].
According to Kenyan media, among the heads of state attending the ceremony were Ethiopia’s Hailemariam Desalegn, South Sudan’s Salva Kiir, Tanzania’s Jakaya Kikwete and Uganda’s Yoweri Museveni.
