Members of the Intelligence Services of the Jubbaland Administration in Kismayo arrested Adan Mohamed Salaad (Aadan Kismayo) on Sunday noon, 22 Dec. 2013. His arrest has been ordered by the presidency of the Jubbaland Administration and is being held at a intelligence detention center known as K2.

The Jubbaland Administration did not comment the arrest of the journalist and it is not yet clear why the journalist was targeted.

The journalist, Adan Mohamed Salad, was the former director of Radio Kismayo run by Jubbaland Administration based in Kismayo and was among several journalists trying to launch another independent radio station, Radio Voice of Somalia, whose equipment was taken over by the administration on its initial day on 13 November 2013 and its director briefly detained. Ahmed Mohamed Salaad left radio Kismayo some five
months ago.

“We condemn in the strongest terms possible and call for the Jubbaland Administration for his unconditional release.” Mohamed Ibrahim, Secretary General of the National Union of Somali Journalists said,”We call upon the administration to respect the media freedoms and freedom of expression which is currently under threat and without
which democratic societies can not develop.” <END>
