Mogadishu (RBC) Former Somali flag carrier is due to resume its operation by the end of December ending more than two decades of absence, Somalia Minister for Information, Posts, Telecommunications and Transportation Abdullahi Elmoge Hersi said on Friday.
Established in 1964, Somali Airline offered flights to both domestic and international destinations, but the airline discontinued operations after the start of the civil war in the early 1990s.
“We have signed two new agreements with Chinese company to purchase four new aircraft- two of them will arrive Mogadishu by the end of December and the two others will be brought within next year,” Minister Hersi said in a press conference in Mogadishu on Friday after returning from work tour to Switzerland and UAE.
The minister said that the four aircrafts- two of them with 58 passenger carriers will be the beginning for the relaunching the country’s airline operations.
