Mogadishu (RBC) CECAFA has on Monday issued the fixtures of its 2013 challenge cup slated in Kenya for 27 Nov-12 December 2013 with Zanzibar to take on South Sudan in the opening match, as shown in the fixtures released today.
Somalia is scheduled to play against Burundi on 28th of November. Somalia’s first match will take place at Machakos Stadium, while the war-weary country will play its rest matches at the National Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi, where the ocean starts have thousands of fans.
Somalia has been placed in what was described as the ‘group of death’ With Zambia and Burundi, while Ethiopia who is currently respected as the region’s strongest team since they reached the last stage of world cup qualifying is in group A with Kenya, Zanzibar and the world’s newest country the South Sudan.
However this year’s CECAFA senior challenge cup is expected to be more competitive than previous years, as some of the participating countries seem to be a bit stronger than they were in the past years like Ethiopia.
Somalia’s Ocean stars who are scheduled to play their first match in the next day of the competition will travel to Nairobi next week.
