PM-SaacidMogadishu (RBC) Somali Prime Minister Abdi Farah Shirdon has called for the immediate end of the armed clashes in KM-50 location in the country’s Lower Shabelle region, RBC Radio reports.

At least 15 people were killed and dozens were injured after government forces and local militia loyal to the government fought in the KM-50 location on Sunday.  The fighting continued until Monday forcing hundreds of civilians to flee from their homes.

The fighting broke out on Sunday after armed forces from the Federal Government of Somalia heading to the region encountered heavy gun battle from local militias who were angered by the forces’ movement into the region.

“I am very upset about the ongoing battle in the KM-50 location in the past two days.” the Prime Minister said in a press release on Monday.

“I call for the immediate halt to the fight and the warring forces to allow the access of the road.” The Prime Minister added.

The Prime Minister highlighted the need for encouragement to the peace and development in the country as he showed his concern that the ongoing clashes could eventually undermine the government’s power to liberate the regions under the militant control.

The situation was calm since Sunday evening as the government forces retreated back to Muri location, near Afgooye district.  The local militias took control of KM-50 location.
