Wajer (RBC) Bomb explosion and heavy gun battle was heard in Kenya’s Waher district on the Northeastern region on Thursday morning one day after Kenya said it has almost concluded the Westgate Mall attack in Nairobi, RBC Radio reports.
At least two people were confirmed dead after gun men attacked a kenyan army military base in Wajer district and followed heavy gun fire between the attackers and the Kenyan Defense Forces [KDF]. Three others were rushed to the hospital for treatment.
According to civilian sources in Wajer who spoke to RBC Radio, the gun men were seem firing the city centre as the police forces were battling against them.
Roads were closed as the small city went in daytime curfew, the residents said.
Wajer is the town where the flights from Somalia initially land for checking before heading to Nairobi, the country’s capital.
On Saturday gun men stormed a busy mall in Nairobi where they took control for four days confronting against the Kenyan f0rces. The government said the attack ended with 70 people killed including five of the attackers and six security forces.
Al Shabab militant group claimed the responsibility of the attack.
