Hargeysa (RBC) Somaliland president Ahmed Mohamed Silanyo has welcomed the recent pledge by the international community to help rebuild Somalia, RBC Radio reports.
“As Somaliland we welcome the pledge and the support of the world for Somalia” Ahmed Silanyo, the president of self-declared region of Somaliland said.
”EU aid to Somalia can’t deviate Somaliland from its path to full-fledged statehood.” he added.
Silanyo reiterated that this week’s New Deal Conference for Somalia will not bring any impact on his region, Somaliland which he said it had already reached its political decision.
“There will no any impact from the New Deal Conference on our nation and the way ahead of us which is reaching full nationhood.” Silanyo added.
Somaliland which is not internationally recognized declared that it has broken away from Somalia in 1992 after clan militias ousted former dictator of Somalia president Mohamed Siyad Barre.
Somaliland did not attend the New Deal Conference ion Brussels co-hosted by the federal government of Somalia and the European Union.
International donors began work on a “New Deal” for Somalia to drive its economic and political recovery after two decades of bloody civil war.
Some 50 high-level delegations from Africa, Europe and the Gulf were attending the one-day meeting in Brussels, along with aid groups and global finance institutions.
More than two billion dollars were pledged to rebuild the horn of African country after years of anarchy and lawlessness.
