SOMALIA: AMISOM spokesman confirms more than 20 Ugandan military fired for corruption

Amisom-spokespersonMogadishu (RBC) The spokesman of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) Col. Ali Aden Houmud has confirmed that 24 officers of the mission were discharged from the military service in Somalia due to corruption.

Col. Houmud said there were still investigations ongoing against 24 officers from the Ugandan People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) in Mogadishu who were found on stealing food and fuel from the military camp and selling out.

“We are currently investigating the case” he said.  “Yes. There are more than 20 officers from Uganda who were officially suspended.” he added.

According to Uganda’s Daily Monitor, Commander of the Ugandan contingent Brigadier Michael Ondoga was among those recalled by President Yoweri Museveni, who also cancelled Ondoga’s new appointment as military attaché to Nairobi.

Former AMISOM spokesman Paddy Ankunda who is currently Ugandan defense spokesman said if enough evidences were found from the ongoing investigations the officers will betaken to military court.
