Kismayu (RBC) The leader of Jubba interim administration Ahmed Mohamed Islam (known as Ahmed Madobe) has survived an assassination attempt after a suicide car bomb hit his car in the centre of Kismayu town, upon returning from Mogadishu on Thursday.
According to local sources a car loaded with explosives has hit the car carrying Ahmed Madobe and his officials after leaving from Kismayu airport.
According to Somali minister, Ahmed Madobe has sustained minor injuries from the attack. At least six people were killed including Madobe’s secretary and several of his body guards.
“I know they said that they hit me with critical injuries which is totally false.” Ahmed Madobe told reporters in Kismayu later today. “I am fine you can see.” he added.
Residents in Kismayu said the telecommunication of the town was cut off after the attack.
Madobe Strongly blamed the attack on Al Shabab and vowed that he will continue to eradicate the Al Qaeda proxy from Somalia.
Soon after the attack, Al Shabab rebel group claimed the responsibility of the explosion saying that they have carried out a” Martyrdom operation against Ahmed Madobe & his officials in Kismayo”.
Somali president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud who is attending the International Conference on Piracy in Dubai has criticized the attack.
