Mogadishu (RBC) The president of the federal government of Somalia Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has canceled a scheduled visit to Middle Shabelle region on Sunday, regional officials said.
The president was due to reach today at Jowhar town, the regional capital of Lower Shabelle region, 90-km north of Mogadishu but the presidential officials informed the governor of the region that the visit was canceled.
“We were informed that the president’s visit was canceled, and we do not have any further details.” Daud Haji, the spokesman for the regional administration told local media today.
Mr Haji said the region made a high preparation for the president’s visit in the past days, as women, elders and even regional officials were expecting to meet the president and discuss many issues with him.
One security officer confirmed that presidential security guards and security team from the African Union Mission in Somalia [AMISOM] which reached the region on Saturday to ground the president’s visit returned back to Mogadishu this morning.
The office of Somali president ans the public relation officer could not be reached for comment.
