Mogadishu (RBC) The Somali Police Spokesman Gen Mohamed Yusuf Madaale said the security forces conducted massive search operation in Mogadishu districts during last night after series of bomb attacks struck the capital, RBC Radio reports.
The biggest hunt operation was targeted at the city’s main market of Bakaro where the police raided houses and business buildings believed to be a hide-out hub for the extremist members.
“On behalf of the security forces, I confirm that we have seized number of weapons, pistols, one suicide vest and several vehicles from different places.” Gen Mohamed Yusuf Madaale said.
He said one suicide bomber was killed by the security forces before he has approached at a police checkpoint at KPP junction of Hodan neighborhood around 8.00 pm local time.
The man was later identified as Abdiraham Diiriye from Qoryoley district. According to the police sources the man who was in his 20s attempted to throw a hand grenade or conduct a suicide explosion to the police base before he was shot and killed.
The police spokesman also confirmed the arrest of dozens of Al Shabab suspects during a night hunt operation in the main Bakaro market.
Early on Thursday morning the security forces also raided houses in Wadajir and Hodan districts where they have nabbed suspects of A Shabab members hiding residential building.
The operation came as the capital hosted series of bomb explosions on Wednesday night. Al Shabab militant group took the responsibility of those attacks.
