Mogadishu (RBC) Somalia’s militant group Al Shabab claimed the responsibility of nigh time attacks in Mogadishu on Wednesday night, which the police said one suicide bomber was shot and killed, RBC Radio reports.

On its twitter account, the militant group said they have conducted more than 28 series attacks against government bases, conference halls and the main base for the African Union Mission [AMISOM] in Mogadishu.

“The Mujahideen carried out a series of 28 explosions inside Mogadishu, targeting African Crusaders and the apostate militia” one twitter feed read.

Describing the aim of the attacks, the rebel group said “the Crusaders and their apostate allies should know that Mogadishu will never be a sanctuary for their Kufr and apostasy.”.

Since the mid of 2011, Al Shabab visible power has weakened by heavy military assault by the African Union Forces backing the federal government’s troops which pushed the group from the main urban areas to the rural villages.  But since then Al Shabab fighters have been able to carry out hit and run attacks and targeted bomb explosions.

The Somali Police Spokesman Gen Mohamed Yusuf Madaale said one suicide bomber was killed by the security forces before he has approached a police checkpoint at KPP junction of Hodan neighborhood.

The man was later identified as Abdiraham Diiriye from Qoryoley district. According to the police sources the man who was in his 20s attempted to throw a hand grenade to the police before he was shot and killed.

The police spokesman also confirmed the arrest of dozens of Al Shabab suspects during a night hunt operation in the main Bakaro market.
