Kismayo (RBC News)The Alqaida linked militant group, Harakatul Shabab Almujahiden has launched an early morning strike on Kismayo international airport for the second day running.

Today’s attack in which a mortar is used and seemed to have been a hit and run attack has caused no human injuries nor has it caused any material damage according to airport authorities.

“It was yesterday morning when they carried out a similar attack on the airport which didn’t harm anyone” a source told RBC Radio.

“Such assaults indicate the inability of Alshabab forces in Lower Jubba to wage direct attacks on the city so they resort to hit and run guerrilla attacks just to draw the media attention to the city” the source added.

Although it has been militarily weakened, Alshabab has been waging bloody coordinated bomb attacks in main cities of south and central Somalia since its withdrawal from the capital in late 2011.
