Somalia: Parliament chair outlaws new motion filed against Somalia-Somaliland agreement

Mogadishu (RBC) The deputy speaker of Somalia Federal Parliament has rejected and described as an outlaw a recently tabled parliamentary motion against seven-point agreement signed in Ankara, Turkey by Somalia Federal Government and Somaliland administration on April 13th, RBC Radio reports.

Two weeks ago a group of legislators tabled a motion against the status of the Ankara agreement for what they described as “apparently violation” against the country’s union principles mentioned in the constitution.

“You will not expect from us to table your motion, as it is outlaw.” the deputy speaker Mahad Cabdalla Cawad told the parliament during Saturday’s session.

He warned some of the parliament members for trying to steer over the work of the cabinet.

“Talking about agreements is mandated to the cabinet.” he added.

On April 23rd the speaker of the parliament canceled scheduled meeting after he said that there were further consultations between the chair and members of he parliament who participated the Somalia-Somaliland talks in Ankara.

Meanwhile the President of Somalia Federal Government Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is expected to face a parliamentary inquiry next month.
