Mogadishu (RBC) Gunmen have on Thursday night shot and killed the deputy national prosecutor of Somalia Ahmed Maalin Sheikh Nuur in Mogadishu Yaaqshiid neighborhood, eyewitnesses said.
Late Sheikh Nuur was shot and killed shortly after he left from nearby mosque heading to his home by two people armed with pistols who immediately escaped from the scene. Another man who accompanied him was also wounded.
Yaaqshiid district police commissioner said Sheikh Nuur did not use armed guards and usually walked freely. The police are now investigating the case but no one was arrested.
The National Prosecutor Hassan Xeyle has condemned the killing and extended condolence message to the family of late Sheikh Nuur.
The killing is the latest one in Mogadishu this week. On Sunday a journalist Mohamed Ibrahim Raage who was working with state-run radio Mogadishu was shot and dead in front of his home in Dharkeenley neighborhood.
The interior minister of Somalia Federal Government announced heavy security operations in the capital to pursue the criminals and terrorist groups hiding in the city.
