Mogadishu (RBC) Somalia defense minister Abdihakim Haji Mohamud Fiqi has resisted back against allegations on his ministry during a parliamentary questioning on Monday, RC Radio reports.

The minister who faced tough inquiry from members of Somalia’s federal parliament has rejected most of the allegations against the government forces that were put into the five questions he responded during the inquiry.

The minister highlighted several key issues concerning the country’s security and the National Security and Stabilization Program [NSSP] which he repeatedly uttered that only national army could lead a new safe Somalia and end clan-based militias.

“Within the NSSP plain the ministry intends to upgrade the defense system and put the number of the country’s national army to 28,000 in the coming five years.” the minister told the parliament.

The defense has rebuffed that the assailants stormed Mogadishu’s main court building were using the government military uniform.

“They were not using the uniform I was one of the first government officials visited the scene.” the minister replied.

He vowed that along with the military tribunal the ministry will take tough security measures to tackle terrorist activities in the capital and other regions in Somalia.

Asked about rumors of arms looting in Mogadishu,m the minister denied but said that there were attempts of looting government owned ammunition.

“Some officials attempted to steal ammunition from presidential store and after receiving intelligence from the security forces we have arrested them and now they are in the custody and are awaiting for trial.” he added.

On Saturday the federal parliament of Somalia questioned the country’s prime minister on various issues and on Sunday the parliament summoned the interior minister for questioning.
