Galkayo (RBC News) Shots of heavy gunfire were heard this mornig at Galkayo’s Abdullahi Yusuf International Airport. It’s believed that the shots were being fired from the south of the city where Galmadug state administers.
According to reports coming from the airport the shots were aimed at a plane going to land at that time. The plane which was carrying Khat for Galkayo chewers landed safely and unharmed.
Although the motive of this attack is not yet clear, it’s believed that’s a connected to a recent incident which took place yesterday at the airport in which a man from the south of Galkayo was killed.
In another incident mortar fire which was apparently shot from the south of the city has landed in the north of the city this morning at a residential place; however it didn’t cause any fatalities apart from damages it brought about to some buildings.
Galkacyo has been relatively calm these days but today and yesterday’s incidents have created a tense atmosphere among the population living in the city.
