Mogadishu (RBC) Somalia’s federal president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has on Tuesday received credentials from two new ambassadors of Swedish and Dutch to Somalia since the collapse of former Somalia central government, RBC Radio reports.
The two ambassadors Mikael Lindvall, the Swedish ambassador, and Joost Reintjes, ambassador from the Netherlands were cordially welcomed by the country’s foreign minister Ms Fawsiya Yusuf Haji Aden before meeting with the president at the state house of Villa Somalia.
After receiving the credentials from the two new ambassadors, president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud said that the government of Somalia and its people were grateful to restore the relations with the world countries after more than two decades of chaos and civil wars.
“This shows that Somalia is returning back to normal and prosperous situation.” the president said.
President Hassan also noted that it was a window of hope for Somalis to see world diplomats coming back to Mogadishu since 1992.
“I urge the new envoys to work establishing good relation between Somalia and their nations.” he added.
On his side the Mikael Lindvall, the new Swedish ambassador to Somalia said that he was pleased to be his country’s ambassador to Somalia as he mentioned that there are Swedish citizens of Somali origins who are willing to relocate to Somalia and his embassy will help them.
“On behalf of Swedish people I would like to extend my condolences to the government and the people of Somalia for the mass loss of Sunday’s terrorist attack that hit the capital.” Mikael Lindvall told reporters in Mogadishu.
Meanwhile Joost Reintjes, ambassador from the Netherlands has thanked Somalia government for welcoming the diplomats as he pledges that the Netherlands is committed to assist new Somalia government in this era.
Since last year when the new president of Somalia took office dozens of foreign diplomats have returned back to Somalia capital, Mogadishu. The United Nations and the European Union already maintained special missions in Mogadishu.
