Mogadishu (RBC) Two Somali famous lawyers were among dozens killed today in Mogadishu court raid, RBC Radio reports on Sunday.
Professor Mohamed Mohamud Afrax and Abdikarin Hussein Gorod both were killed after ten al-Shabab extremists, most wearing suicide vests, stormed Somalia’s main court complex in Mogadishu on Sunday.
The attack which took more than two hours killed at least 22 people including lawyers, government soldiers and civilians.
The bodies of the two lawyers were taken from the court building to theirr homes as members of the families gathered to mourn for the loss.
Both of them had recently succeeded to defended Somali journalist and an IDP Somali woman who was raped by government forces whom the journalist interviewed.

Late Afrax and Gorod were described as the only independent lawyers in Mogadishu who dedicated their time in caring human rights issues and helping those who can not afford to pay for lawyers in the courts.
In a recent RBC Radio interview with Professor Afrax he said that he was committed to fight for the rights of the Somali women particularly those in the Internal Displaced camps who usually meet difficult situation in their lives.
