Beledweyn (RBC) At least two civilians were killed and four others injured after Ethiopian forces shot at people in mosque in Beledweyn town, central Somalia region of Hiiraan on Friday, RBC Radio reports.
The shooting occurred during the Friday [Jumcah] prayer at Nuur Mosque at the centre of Beledweyn bringing heavy outrage from locals.
According to eyewitnesses the Ethiopian forces approached at the mosque during the prayer time and begun shooting the people at the mosque without any reason. Two people were dead and four others were wounded.
Abdi Ahmed, the brother of one of the two people killed told local media that the killing of his brother followed a recent speech which he criticized Ethiopian forces in Somalia for killing innocent Somali people.
There were no comments from the Ethiopian officials in Hiiraan region. Ethiopian forces in Somalia do not maintain any spokesman.
The newly appointed governor of Hiiraan region Abdi Farah Laqanyo said sent condolences to the families of those killed as the administration announced to carry out investigation to the motive behind killing civilians.
RBC Radio
