Mogadishu (RBC) Renowned Somali politician, former legislator and colonel in Somali National Security Agency, Hassan Mohamed Nur Shaaati Guduud has died in a hospital in Germany on Wednesday after longtime sickness, RBC Radio reports.
Following his death, Somali president Hassan Sheikh Mohamed has sent his condolences to the family and friends of late Shaati Gudud.
“I was told that late Hassan Mohamed Nur has died in a hospital in Germany, May Allah gives him the paradise and may rest his Soul in the Jannah.” president Mohamud said.
In a statement from the speaker of Somali parliament Mohamed Osman Jawari described the death of Shaati Guduud as a shocking one and called for the people of Somalia to pray for him.
Meanwhile members of the parliament said that the body of late Shaati Guduud will be flown to Mogadishu from Germany for burial. He has left behind a number of children.
Aged 67, Late Shaati Guduud, who hails from Somalia’s southwestern regions of Baay and Bakool has been the leader of his tribal militia of Rahanweyn since 2002 where he fought against General Aidid’s militia in Baay and Bakool regions.
He has been away from politics since 2005 after suffering severe abdominal illness. He has served as a legislator in the former Somalia Transitional federal parliament [TFP] since November 2004 and as the minister of finance since January 2005.
