Dubai (RBC) The governments of Somalia and the United Arab Emirates have on Sunday signed the first official Memorandum of Understanding between the two governments.
The MoU which becomes the first since the collapse of the former Somalia central government paves the way for new bilateral relations between the two nations.
UAE’s Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Somalian Foreign Minister Fowsiyo Yusuf Haji Adan who is currently visiting the UAE have signed the agreement in a big event in Dubai.
“We welcome the agreement and we see it as a very signifacnt step forward at this time.” Somalian Foreign Minister Fowsiyo Yusuf Haji Adan upon signing the Memorandum of Understanding.
The agreement defines that the two states will establish official diplomatic mission as the UAE will open its embassy in Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia.
The signing of this agreement during talks between the Somalia federal president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and the UAE officials in Dubai where they have discusses ways to enhance bilateral relations and cooperation.
