Mogadishu (RBC) Somalia prime minister Abdi Farah Shirdon “Saacid” is expected to launch the first cabinet reshuffle since he unveiled his 10 ministers cabinet in November last year, sources told Raxanreeb Online.
The reshuffle which is due to take place soon is said to bring new faces into the council of ministers which has been operating in the past four months. The minister of information, the ministry of social services and the ministry of public works are anticipated to be replaced within the upcoming minor reshuffle.
During the past four weeks there had been ongoing consultations between the top government officials including the prime minister and the president to select the proper members of the new cabinet and to review the achievements of the current council of ministers.
The number of the current cabinet is also due to be expanded from 10 ministers to 12 ministers, one official at the prime minister’s office told Raxanreeb Online in anonymity condition.
Prime Minister Abdi Farah Shirdon declared his 10 cabinet as the first to distribute ministerial posts equally among Somalia’s five main tribal groupings making the ever leanest council in the horn of Africa country.
Analysts believe that the expected reshuffle will come amid growing complaints from different clans who were left behind in the previous cabinet nomination, and that both the president and the prime minister were willing to respond to it and also to accelerate the work of some ministers in this crucial period.
