President Hassan in a working visit to UAE
In a working visit to United Arab Emirates (UAE), President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Hassan Sh Mohamud, has met tonight with the Crown Prince of UAE, HRH Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, for bilateral talks focusing on issues of security, development, reconciliation, and diplomatic ties.
Accompanying the Somali leader are the Deputy Prime Minister / Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Fowzia Yusuf Hagi Adam; Minister of Finance, Mohamud Hassan Suleyman; Minister of State for the Presidency, Farah Sh. Abdulkadir; Minister for State for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Mohamed Nuur Ga’al; and the Somali Ambassador to the UAE, H.E. Abdulkadir Sheikhey Al-Hatimi.
During the meeting the President talked about the recent security gains made in Somalia and the return of stability to many parts of the country. “We need to further develop and maintain stability, while at the same time making serious reforms within our security forces. Our forces are now under training and soon will be able to execute their duties as expected”, President Hassan said.
“In the area of development, our government has projects underway across Somalia to deliver public services to the citizens. The government intends to build a clinic, school, local administration building, police station, and water well for each district in order to serve the basic needs of our people.”
While talking to the Crown Prince, the president stated
“I thank you and the government of UAE for their unconditional support to the people of Somalia and their effort in the reconciliation process.”
In the meeting it was agreed that the UAE would re-open their embassy in Somalia after 22 years. This step further strengthens the relationship between the two countries. Somalia has maintained its Embassy in UAE for the past two decades.
