Prime Minister to visit Kismayo in spirit of Listening, Learning and Leading
His Excellency Prime Minister Abdi Farah Shirdon today said he was ready for his Listening Tour to Kismayo.
“I will travel to Kismayo in a spirit of listening, learning and leading,” the Prime Minister said ahead of a landmark visit to the city.
“My recent Listening Tour has taken me to Lower Shabelle, Hiraan, Galgadud, Himan and Heeb, Galmudug and Puntland. My priority wherever I went was the same: to listen to the people and their leaders, offer government support for local leaderships, boost trust and increase national unity as we build a functioning federal state from the ruins of war.”
Addressing the people of the Jubbas directly, the Prime Minister said, “I will approach Kismayo in the same spirit, to listen to your concerns, speak to your leaders, engage with the public, learn more about the problems you are facing and how we, together with your local leaders, can resolve them.”
The Prime Minister said he would be congratulating the leaders and people of Kismayo for their “momentous” defeat of Al Shabaab. Cutting off the terrorists’ logistical lifeline had brought the country one step closer to ultimate victory.
“The government’s constitutional mandate is to establish a federal state as the end goal. While I am in Kismayo I will be doing everything I can to assist the region. My message to the people of Kismayo is that we are here to help you and listen to your concerns. We are partners with you and we are here to serve you. We are all Somalis.”
