Beledweyn (RBC) The militant group in Somalia attacked the house of a former Somali military officer in Beledweyn in a night ambush, RBC Radio.
According to police and family members, Col. Hashi Hussein Diriye was killed in his home in Beledweyn after gunmen supposed to be linked to the extremist group attacked the home.
The gunmen exchanged fire against the Col. Diriye’s armed bodyguards in the midnight and later the gunmen stormed the home and killed him.
Two of Col. Diriye’s bodyguards were also killed in the home after fierce gunfire with the attackers.
The security forces in Beledweyn said that they have managed to capture two of the attackers who were seriously wounded during the attack and will be brought to court soon.
Col. Diriye, a former Somali military officer in later central government has served as military consultant and a freelance politician based in Beledweyne, the regional capital of Hiiraan province central Somalia.
The town has been in a relative stability since last month after a deadly suicide explosion that killed more than 20 people, mostly police members.
