Hargeysa (RBC) The president of the an unrecognised self-declared Somali land Ahmed Mohammed Mohamud Siilanyo, flew from the airport in Berbera to the United arab emirates this afternoon.
The president did not give any press briefing but according to Raxanreeb reporter, the president is accompanied by delegation of ministers including; minister for foreign affairs Mohammed Abdullahi Omar, minister for finance Samaale, minister for trade and also minister for state affairs Hirsi Haaji Ali.
Concerning the trip, minister for foreign affairs Mohamed Abullahi only said, “the delegation got an invitation from one of the top official governors in UAE who is going to have a meeting with the president.
Many people are seeing this visit as part of preparation for a grand meeting scheduled for next week between the delegation from somaliland and the president of Somalia Hassan Sheikh Mohamud who is also expected in UAE in a couple of days.
This meeting that is expected to be held between the two presidents comes at a time when a lot of efforts are being made to bring reconciliation by the Arab countries especially UAE and Qatar.
Before president Hassan took helm of office as the president of Somalia, Mr. Silaanyo met with the former interim president Shariff Sheikh Ahmed in Dubai and the talk between the two sides took place when a meeting was held accommodating ministers from both Somalia and Somaliland.
Refusal to attend London meeting
The expected meeting also comes at a time when Somaliland already said, they will not be part of Somalia and they will not attend the meeting that was scheduled to happen in London on the month of May this year which was organized by the government of England but which will be chaired by the president of Somalia Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
Officials from Mogadishu are yet to speak about this meeting in Dubai and how it is going to go down since the two sides never had a diplomatic meetings before and also their statements which they both sent to the press of which both were very much contradicting.
Reports that are coming out claim that this meeting in Dubai is meant to persuade Ahmed Siilanyo to attend the London meeting and also talks on the new Somali government and the government of Hargesa to commence as the were planned.
