SOMALIA: President Hassan condemns deadly attack in Bosasso, Puntland

Mogadishu (RBC) Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has today condemned the deadly suicide explosion in Bosasso, a port town in Northeast region of Puntland, RBC Radio reports.

At least 10 people including Puntland security forces were killed in the attack which a car laden with explosives targeted to a convoy of Puntland Marine Police Force [PMPF] in the main market of the town.

“After being defeated in front-lines , the terrorists turned to kill inncocent civilians in everywhere of the country.” President Hassan said in a statement today.

President Hassan sent his condolences to the families of those killed in the attack while he said that he wished urgent recovery for all those wounded.

“I call to all Somalis we have to turn our attention to eradicate this enemy against our people.” Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud added.

The explosion occurred near the city’s biggest marketplace shortly after the convoy carrying some foreign trainers returned from the market, according local sources.

Among the dead are Puntland Marine Police Forces connected to Saracen International, a South African based mercenary group operating in Puntland.

Local journalists report that the Bosasso hospital has received more than 20 injured including civilians who were caught on the explosion.

The town which is the largest commercial hub for the region, has its main streets cut off while hundreds of people rushed to the hospital to look if their relatives were among those affected in the explosion.

In a statement released today afternoon, The Puntland Government condemned the attack and blamed on Al Shabab militant group.

No group has officially claimed the responsibility of the attack yet.
