Garowe (RBC) Puntland Presidential candidate, and former Somali Prime Minister Abdiweli Mohamed Ali Gaas has today reached Garowe, the capital of Somalia’s semi-autonomous state of Puntland, RBC Radio reports.
Mr Gaas was welcomed with high turn out as elders, women and young supporters gathered at Birtadheer, nearly 10-km out of Garowe.
“I am heartfelt thanking to the people who have gathered here to receive and welcome me.” Mr Gaas said.
He said he has met different segments of the society in Puntland in different towns on the corridor between Galkacyo and Garowe.
Mr Gaas, a renowned politician and university professor is among more than ten presidential contestants running for Somalia’s Northeastern region’s presidency in the next four years.
Puntland’s Presidential campaign for the upcoming election is turning into sour after the rival candidates opposed a vetting committee announced by the incumbent president Abdirahman Farole on Tuesday.
