Beledweyn (RBC) The militant group in Somalia, Al Shabab has taken the responsibility of today’s suicide explosion that killed more than 20 people in central Somalia town of Beledweyn.
A spokesman for Al Shabab, Sheikh Abdiasis Abu Mus’ab said that they targeted the central police station where he said Djibouti and Ethiopian forces were stationed.
“Our fighters entered the police station of Beledweyn and conducted heavy operation. We have killed many Ethiopians and Djiboutians.” the militant’s spokesman told local radio.
According to local sources after heavy suicide car bomb hit the town today around 10.00 am local, he fighters of Al Shabab begun shooting people inside the police station where the regional court sits to listen to the people’s complaints.
Heavy gun fire and several explosions were even heard inside the central explosion.
Local journalist told RBC Radio that he has seen 25 injured people rushed to the hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile Somali president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Prime Minister Abdi Farah Shirdon condemned the attack.
