Nairobi (RBC) At least 10 Kenyan security soldiers were confirmed dead after Al Shabab rebels attacked Kenyan security forces’ bases in Mandhera and Wajer districts on Wednesday night, RBC Radio reports.
According to locals militants attacked police station in Mandhera town on the Somali border killing at least five soldiers.
The militants then attacked another town of Wajer, where the flights from Somalia usually land for checking before heading to Nairobi.
On its twitter account, Al Shabab militant group claimed the attacks. The group said its fighters burnt down police vehicles before leaving and made away with weapons and ammunition.
There were no immediate response from the Kenyan police officials.
On Thursday the security minister has fired the Northeastern police commissioner following the attacks.
The attacks on two police bases in Wajer and Mandhere came as Kenya takes three days to mourn for the dead of those killed in the Westgate siege this week.
