Garowe (RBC) First polio case was found in the Somalia’s semi-autonomous region of Puntland, the region’s health minister said.
Dr Ali Abdullahi Hersi, the Puntland health minister said that one child living in the port town of Bosasso was diagnosed and found with polio which means that other cases of polio could be found in the region.
“We can confirm that polio now exists in Puntland.” The minister said.
Meanwhile the director of the ministry Dr. Abdirisaq Abshir said that the ministry and the other health agencies launched urgent efforts to contain the disease before it could spread into other locations in the region.
Two years ago, the world health organization has already declared that Somalia was free from polio but last month the organization itself said that polio exists in the country.
