The Somali Human Rights Commission condemns today’s heinous attack on the UNDP compound in Mogadishu Somalia. This barbaric attack is not just an attack on the UN but also on the Somali people who are the direct beneficiaries of the UN aid operations.
We send our heartfelt condolences to the UN and to the families who lost loved ones and pray for the speedy recovery of the wounded.
This dastardly attack is a stark reminder to the Somali people and their government that the enemies of peace are still lurking around and the urgent need to unite their efforts in order restore peace and stability in the country.
The Somali Human Rights Commission supports the effort of the international community to rebuild Somalia and this attack should not shake their commitment and determination to help the Somali people.
We urge the federal government to improve security effectively and ensure the safety of the aid workers who are the lifeline to millions of Somali citizens and not squander its limited resources in internecine and unnecessary conflicts which gives the terrorists a chance to regroup and dash our dreams for peace and rebirth.
The Somali Human Rights Commission is a US based non-governmental organization that seeks to protect and promote the basic human rights of the Somali people both inside and outside of the country.
The commission is located in the state of Minnesota and can be reached at
