Puntland Students Association- Ethiopia Commends Puntland Democratization Process
Puntland Students Association-Ethiopia (PUNSA-Ethiopia) wholeheartedly welcomes Puntland Government’s ongoing effort of expanding Democratization process in the entire region and commends the reaction of the locals to achieve free and fair democratic elections.
We absolutely believe that Puntland government can fairly manage and smoothly run democratization programme if the government and the society together unite against spoilers and political opportunists. Despite minor security threats emanating from terrorist groups, Puntland government is pursuing the democratization programme under an environment conducive for safe elections.
Abdiweli Yusuf Ali, an undergraduate management student and a prominent member at PUNSA-Ethiopia said, “We are very happy to transcend from clan based system, Democracy entails peace and justice and even many people including minority groups, youth and women will involve in the decision making processes”.
“Since the programme enjoys public support, Puntland government is expected to prioritize the role of the youth and to complete the remaining things”, he added.
PUNSA-Ethiopia finally calls on the Puntland people to remain vigilant and suggests to the registered political associations to maintain the region’s security and compete in the local elections scheduled for mid-2013 peacefully.
