Mogadishu (RBC) Somali journalist Abdullahi Salad was flown to Mogadishu on Tuesday after he has sustained critical injuries from assassination attempt late on Monday in Beledweyn town, central Somalia region of Hiiraan, RBC Radio reports.
The journalist Abdullahi Salad was working with UN-sponsored humanitarian radio ERGO based in Nairobi.
He was attacked by a man armed with sword yesterday afternoon while he was sitting in a tea shop at the centre of the town. The journalist was severely hit on the neck and the back several times with the sword and was rushed to the hospital.
According to doctors and family members, the journalist remained unconscious as his condition seemed very critical. He was taken to Mogadishu on air on Tuesday morning to seek improved treatment in Mogadishu.
It was unclear what was the motive of the attack but the police managed to arrest the attacker with the sword before he tried to escape and he is now being interrogated in the central police station.
A week ago unidentified gun men shot and killed a journalist Mohamed Ibrahim Raage who was working with the state-run radio in Mogadishu.
The National Union of Somali Journalists said journalists in Somalia still live and work in the most difficult condition in the world since 2005.
