New York (RBC) United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon has appointed Nicholas Kay, a renowned British diplomat as new UN envoy to Somalia replacing the Tanzanian origin Augustine Mahiga, RBC Radio reports on Monday.
Mr. Kay, born 01 June 1958 will lead the new United Nations post-transition mission in Somalia after ending a ten years transitional government in the country. He will take office at the end of June when Ambassador ends his term since 2010.
Secretary General Ban commended the outgoing ambassador Mahiga for his role in the concluding the transitional period in Somalia and re-establishment of government system in the country.
On September last year a new president was elected in Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia as a new parliament is formed for the first time inside the country.
Somalia president and the British prime minister will co-chair Somalia Conference in London on next month in a widely organized gathering to help Somalia’s rebuilding.
