Kismaayo (RBC) Former Somali member of parliament from Gedo region Colonel Barre Aadan Shire [better known Hiiraale] has reached Somalia’s southern port town of Kismaayo on Wednesday, RBC Radio reports.
Col. Barre who once headed Jubbaland Valley militia before Al Shabab overpowered in 2008, is reportedly reached the town on Wednesday by boat where he was hosted by fellow clansmen and small number of his armed guards.
In his first interview to local media, Col. Barre said the objective of his visit to Kismaayo was to have his home back after five years of absence from the town.
“I came to be part of the solution in Kismaayo, I will meet with local elders.” he added.
Meanwhile officials of Kismaayo interim administration seemed that they were annoyed by Barre’s sudden arrival as media reports claim tensions in the town.
Kismaayo, a strategic port town on southern Somalia region of Lower Jubba has been hosting Jubbaland Conference since February 28th. The Conference is seeking to the formation of new autonomous administration.
