Mogadishu (RBC) Unidentified gunmen shot and killed Somali journalist working with state run radio Mogadishu late on Sunday afternoon, colleagues told RBC Radio.
Mohamed Ibrahim Raage (better known as Honest) was shot and killed by two men armed with pistols in front of his home at Dharkenley neighborhood in the capital, shortly after he returned back from his work.
The editor of Radio Mogadishu, a state run radio Mohamed Abukar said that late Raage was shot by two men around 6:00 p.m (local time) after he has left from the radio station.
The perpetrators escaped from the crime scene soon after the they shot the journalist, eyewitnesses said.
“When I lastly saw him was at 5:00 p.m after he finished his daily shift at the radio.” Abukar said.
Late Raage has reported from the parliament on Sunday during an open session which members of the parliament questioned the interior minister.
“He has mainly covered the presidential news for the radio and the TV.” Abukar added.
RBC Radio reporter who was close friend to Late Raage said that he was frankly and honestly. He has left behind several kids and a wife.
This to be the fourth journalist assassinated in Somalia so far this year. In last year 18 Somali journalists were killed. Despite Somali government announced an independent panel to probe up killing against media workers only one suspect was arrested and sentenced for killing a journalist in September 2012.
The National of Somali Journalists and other international press freedom organizations described Somalia as the worst place for journalists to work in the world.
