Caabudwaaq (RBC) Residents of central Somalia town of Caabudwaaq have on Saturday protested against the assassination of famous Somali doctor who helped locals, RBC Radio reports.

According to locals in Caabudwaaq town, Dr. Ahmed Sheikh Farah was shot and killed by Ethiopia’s Liyu police after crossing the border into Somalia on Friday and they took away his body back to the Ethiopian side of the border.

Hundreds of Caabudwaaq residents gathered on Saturday to show their outrage against the killing of the sole general pediatric doctor in central Somalia regions.

“The people of Caabudwaaq gathered to show their feeling against this bad action.” Caabudwaaq district commissioner, Ahmed Nasir told the demonstrators.

Referring the assassination of the Dr. Ahmed Sheikh Farah the district commissioner also mentioned that locals did an attempt to capture the murders but unfortunately failed after the perpetrators crossed back the border.

He said the locals will not tolerate targeting doctors and other valuable individuals in the region.

The motive of the killing was not clear as Somalia federal government officials did not comment on the killing.

Liyu Police (“special” in Amharic) is an Ethiopian run police force at the Somali ethnic region under the Ethiopian regime.  The group has been widely condemned for crimes against human rights in Ethiopia including killing and torturing innocent Somali ethnics.
