Mogadishu (RBC) Somalia federal government has downplayed a security warning of possible terrorist attacks in Mogadishu, issued by the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) on Friday.
Somalia information minister Abdullahi Hersi Elmoge described the security alert from the British government as “unclear message” and that it will not have any impact on Somali people.
“British is a great government and has the right to warn its citizens like any other nation in the world, but to us this new security threat will not influence our people.” Mr Elmoge told the VOA on Saturday.
He said the security of the capital, Mogadishu is hundred percent under the government’s control and vowed the government was committed to continue eliminating Al Shabab members in Somalia.
“There is no information shared with us by the UK government and we can not assure whether the report is real.” the minister added.
Somalia information minister Abdullahi Hersi Elmoge also emphasized that the security forces are vigilant and ready to respond against if anti-peace elements attempt to do something.
“I can confirm that the business and the while life of Somalia is going well and secure and I hope that we have the ability to prevent any peril.” he added as referring to previous alerts issued by British government toward Somaliland, a region on the north of Somalia.
