(For Immediate release)

AMISOM press-releaseMogadishu 12th September-AU Special Representative to Somalia Ambassador Mahamat Saleh Annadif condemned today’s attack in the port city of Kismayo which saw civilians killed.

Reportedly the incident occurred near the Kismayo’s presidential palace located in Arco Fanoole district of Kismayo city when a car loaded with explosives detonated close to the convoy carrying the President of Interim Jubba Administration President Madobe. Civilians were reportedly among the casualties.

President Madobe had just returned from the Somali capital, Mogadishu, where he had several meetings with the President of the Somali Federal Government, Sheikh Hassan Mahmoud, Prime Minister Abdi Farah Shirdon Saaid, and some members of the central government regarding a proposed reconciliation conference for the Jubba communities.

“We strongly condemn this atrocity and we will continue to stand by the people of Somalia as they fight against the violent minority that seeks to drag them back into the dark days of chaos and anarchy,” said Ambassador Annadif . He also sent his condolences to the family and friends of those killed and prayed for a quick recovery for the injured.

Ambassador Annadif also reaffirmed AMISOM’s commitment to helping the Federal Government of Somalia and its National Security Forces to enhance security in the country. “We will continue to mentor and train the Somali security forces and police so they can better protect the people of Somalia,” he said.

AMISOM commends the recent significant agreement signed between the Federal Government of Somalia and President Madobe in Addis-Ababa, and encourages both parties to continue to preserve the spirit of peace which is the key to victory thereby undermining those who want to derail progress being made.

The Federal government and Jubaland delegations recently agreed on the formation of an Interim Administration headed by President Madobe during a meeting in Addis Ababa
